"Rackham Ballarol joins Nathan Bedford Forrest's
command in Rome GA and makes two new friends. Previously while blockade
running cotton to Nassau he met and befriended Kelsie a dancer who now
has joined a circus in the Confederacy and provides the romantic
interest. Rack has a big yellow cat named Colonel Turpentine who figures
in the story. Rack and friends engage in cavalry raids, scouting, and
spying in furtherance of the Confederate cause. Periodically Rack comes
into contact with Kelsie and his antagonist circus owner and Yankee spy."--goodreads.
