In 'The Roaring Twenties' (1939) a trio of men, having fought together in the First World War, return to America and try to make a living in the midst of the prohibition era. Finally, 'The Fighting 69th' (1940) is set in the trenches of World War I following the famous 69th Irish regiment of Rainbow Division. Jerry Plunkett (Cagney) is a brash new recruit whose rebelliousness causes tragedy but he discovers his patriotism after being given a second chance.
