In 'The Importance of Being Earnest' (1988), Jack Worthing (Paul McGann) invents an imaginary brother as an excuse to bow out of a dull weekend in the country so he can spend the time in London. Meanwhile, Algernon Moncrieff (Rupert Frazer) invents an imaginary friend to provide him with the excuse to escape his dull home in the city so he can attend a country house party.
