Item description
SHARDIK
by Richard Adams
New York: Simon and Schuster, (1974).
First American edition, first printing.
First printing number code sequence 1 through 10 to the copyright page, code 22015 to the lower edge of jacket's rear panel, no jacket's artist credit, and $9.95 to the jacket's flap.
SIGNED by the Carnegie Award winning author of WATERSHIP DOWN, to the title page.
Internal map illustrations by Marilyn Hemmett.
Adams' second novel, nominated for the British Fantasy Award is the first of two fantasies set in the ancient Beklan Empire and focuses on a very large bear that is discovered, captured, considered a god, used for religious power and symbolic meaning, and for military and political might.
Lovely collectible condition with NO remainder mark.
Two short faint fade lines to the lower front cover, else near fine, square and firm in brown linen with dark-brown embossed bear head art by Wendell Minor to the front cover, gilt embossed titles to the spine, color map illustrated end-papers by Rafael Palacios, red-and-yellow headband and tail-band; in a very nearly fine dust jacket with front panel color art by Wendell Minor, with a few minute crimps to the shelf-edges and a touch of the usual age-toning; original $9.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
After photographing as seen pictured in this entry, the dust jacket will be placed in a removable, protective, quality Bro-Dart brand clear sleeve.
