Item description
The Trieste II - Deep Sea Submergence Commemorative Coin
Trieste is a Swiss-designed, Italian-built deep-diving research Bathyscaphe,
which with her crew of two reached a record maximum depth of about
10,911 metres (35,797 ft),
in the deepest known part of the Earth's Oceans, the Challenger Deep, in the Marianna Trench near Guam in the Pacific.
On 23 January 1960, Jacques Piccard(son of the boat's designer Auguste Piccard) and US Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh
achieving the goal of the Trieste being the first manned vessel to have reached the bottom of the Challenger Deep.
Up for sale is the Trieste II Commemorative Coin pictured above.
The ONLY way to get one of these coins used to be having to be a pilot, or crew member for the dives of Trieste.
Now a hand full of people can get them and knowing that hand full of people will get you one if you know who to go through.
I happened to be at the last reunion for the Pilots and Crew of the Trieste and had the pleasure of speaking with Don Walsh and listening to his talk on the Trieste.
In the pictures provided you will see the coin offered, an older photo of Don Walsh and Piccard, the Trieste itself and a current photo of Don Walsh, Myself and My father who was Pilot #20 on Trieste 2.
Shipping is USPS priority. Any questions please ask.
