Item description
Pre-viewed for quality and had a few, split second 'dirt' snow lines in the first 20 minutes, played great otherwise, and these should go away upon further viewings. Everything looks like new otherwise.
Special effects are the real stars here, Walt Disney studio was subcontracted to do them.
A flying saucer from Earth is sent to rescue a space mission on Altair IV. The starship commander (Leslie Nielsen) discovers only two survivors, Morbius (Pidgeon) and his beautiful daughter Alta (Francis); the rest have been killed by some unknown terror still roaming the planet.
Morbius lives in a house constructed above the last remains of the ancient Krell civilization. The film, shot entirely indoors on sound stages at MGM, features electronic music by Bebe and Louis Baron long before Moog synthesizers had been developed.
The highlights are the tour of the Krell city, the Id monster, Robby the Robot, the landing of United Planets Cruiser C-57D, and the laser battle with the monster. Still one of the finest science-fiction movies ever made.
