Item description
THE ACE OF SPADES
By Adam Nasielski.
Translated from Polish to English by Alice Lake.
London: Macdonald Co. (Publishers), (1939).
First edition in English, first printing.
"Published in Warsaw, 1939" statement to the copyright page.
This translated mystery was later published in 1944 by the Thriller Book Club.
The Polish author of ALIBI features clever Inspector Bernard Zbik of the Polish State Police pitting wits with a killer who murders with the motive of challenging the intellect, methods, and science of the police, in this clue filled detecting mystery.
Former owner's very faint rubber stamp to the lower edge of the front end-paper, slight foxing to the page edges, corner tips bumped, black linen loosely puckered in places to the front and rear covers, else sound, sturdy and good plus with silver embossed titles and publisher's insignia to the spine; in a price-clipped very good dust jacket with delightful golden-age mystery art to the front panel, with some fading to the spine panel, small chips and short tears to the upper and lower spine ends, short edge tears clear-tape reinforced to the verso, and with rubbing to the front flap fold and front spine fold.
