Item description
PRINCE ISHMAEL:
A Novel
by Marianne Hauser.
New York: Stein and Day Publishers, (1963).
First edition, first printing.
Nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
Considered a modern classic and her best novel, this is the historically created biography of the foundling Kaspar Hauser, suspected of being hidden by royalty, was kept in isolation until aged sixteen, then thrown in Nuremberg prison for vagrancy until the town of Nuremberg collected money for his education and care.
No one could prove any of the numerous rumors about his past.
The Alsatian-American prolific author who was friends with Anais Nin and Mari Sandoz, is also famous for her later period avant garde and satirical style in the late sixties and seventies including THE TALKING ROOM.
Lower rear corner slightly bumped, else near fine in brick-red linen over slate-gray boards with gilt embossed titles to the front cover and to the spine, red-and-yellow headband and tail-band, mauve-plum end-papers, deckle fore-edges, upper page edges brick-red; in a near fine dust jacket with slight yellowing to the spine panel, and with minuscule rubbed nicks to the upper and lower spine edges; original printed $5.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
