First edition, (Circled Rinehart "R" is present.), flat signed by author on front free flyleaf, light orange cloth w/black, white and blue titling on spine, 8vo (9.25x6.5"), very good/good+, 433 pp. Spine of book under, dust jacket, lightly damp stained at head and tail, dust jacket lightly chipped at head and tail, dust-jacket is price clipped, some light and sporadic soiling within the text-block not effecting the text or illustrations at all. Mr. Davis lets us see the last tragic days of the Confederacy in a way that touches the human heart most keenly - through the eyes of the soldiers and civilians (both sides) who actually experienced the excitement and anguish. Petersburg to Appomattox is a chapter of the war that has been somewhat neglected. I am indeed glad to see it treated with such vividness and such painstaking scholarship. - John J.
