Item description
John Greenleaf Whittier (December 17, 1807 โ September 7, 1892) was an American Quaker poet and advocate of the abolition of slavery in the United States. Frequently listed as one of the fireside poets, he was influenced by the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Whittier is remembered particularly for his anti-slavery writings, as well as his 1866 book Snow-Bound.
Household edition with 473 pages of Whittier's poetry with notes, index of first lines and and index of poems at the back of the volume. The first PROEM in teh preface starts out " I love the old medldious lays, Which softly melt the ages through, The songs of Spencer's goldendays, Arcadian Sidney's silvery phrase, Sprinkling our noon of time with freshest morning dew."
