Item description
2001:
A SPACE ODYSSEY
by Arthur C. Clarke
Based on a screenplay by Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke
(New York): NAL/The New American Library/SFBC, [circa 1969].
Book Club edition, EARLY printing.
Printing code 39 K to page 219, indicating an approximate date of 1969.
The original first printing book club code was 31 J, indicating the 31st week of 1968.
Originally published by NAL in June 1968 with the same dust jacket art by Robert McCall.
A cornerstone piece of hard science fiction that involves near future warning messages, artificial intelligence, aliens, philosophy, and interstellar travel.
A modern vintage film tie-in collectible.
Upper spine edge bumped, a few tiny surface nicks to the lower edge of the front end-paper, else very good plus to near fine in polished, textured, dark-blue over sky-blue boards with silver embossed titles to the spine, upper page edges sky-blue, blue-and-white headband and tail-band, blue film-scene illustrated end-papers; in a very good dust jacket with front panel color art by Robert McCall and a color film-still scene to the rear panel, with light-tan age-toning to the borders, spine panel, and flap folds as usual, crimps to the upper spine end, a few tiny tears to the lower spine edge, a creased .25" tear to the upper edge of the rear panel, lower corner of front inner flap clipped.
