Item description
YOUNG CHARLES LAMB:
1775-1802
By Winifred F. Courtney
New York: New York University Press, 1982.
First American edition, first printing.
Illustrated with genealogical trees, and with photographs on black-and-white plates to a center section.
Detailed, sympathetic chronicle of the early years of the celebrated essayist, critic, author of LAMB'S SHAKESPEARE TALES, and eccentric.
Courtney has unearthed some early unsigned articles by Lamb, including his first known published essay, reprinted here.
A
hint of rubbing to the lower shelf-edges, former owner's address
discreetly written to the upper corner of the inside front cover (hidden
by the jacket flap), else a near fine in black linen with gilt embossed
titles to the spine, cream-orange end-papers; in a very nearly fine
dust jacket with mild surface lamination rubbing, and a minute crimp to the
upper spine edge.
Octavo; 411 pages; bibliography, notes, index.
