Item description
THE EVENTS MAN by Richard Barry
Moffat, Yard Co., First Edition, 1907
Condition: Good
This nonfiction book, "Being an Account of the Adventures of Stanley Washburn, American War Correspondent", is written as if Washburn himself were telling of the events. (Later, after traveling with the Russian armies during WWI, Washburn was among the earliest Americans to publicly condemn Bolshevism and the Soviet form of government.) 294 pages, including a Frontispiece photo of Washburn aboard his dispatch boat the Fawan and a map.
Here is a heading/synopsis of one chapter:
Chapter VII. AGAIN A CAPTIVE. An army at sea bursts on us and
goes out, the Chief escapes, I dawdle about Port Arthur, invite
out a destroyer and get a shot across the bows.
This title is very scarce in the 1st edition. But this copy is also signed inscribed by the author. The front pastedown is stamped "Sunridge Retirement", and the back pastedown has glue residue, suggesting it was in the home's library. The cover corners are moderately bumped with some wear, the spine is very faded with modest wear, the cover edges have light wear, the front cover illustration and printing shows some rubbing; the paper by the back hinge is partially torn and the webbing is also showing in the gutter at the half-title page; there are two page-edge bumps, staining in the upper page margins, some page creasing and moderate page toning. Still, the binding is intact. The price has been reduced by 20%.
