Near-fine condition.
A book of verses with a distinctive and overt German accent written into the text by American poet Charles Follen Adams (1842-1918). This was quite a popular book when it first came out, being a companion volume to his earlier work Leedle Yawcob Strauss, and Other Poems. Adams called this Anglo-Teutonic verse; an example of one is:
Von schmall young baby, full off fun,
Von leedle prit-eyed, roguish son,
Von frau to greet vhen vork vas done--
Dot's mine vamily.
Brownish-tan cloth-covered boards with stamped gilt titles and dark brown decoration on front and gilt titles and dark brown decoration to spine. Frontispiece of author with tissue. Illustrated. Octavo; size is 5-1/8" by 7-5/8". Has 136 pages, plus 4 pages publishers advertisements. A scarce book in this good condition.
