Item description
Heirloom Organic Plains Coreopsis Seeds (AKA Coreopsis Tinctoria, Garden Coreopsis, Golden Tickseed, Calliopsis) (25)
Coreopsis tinctoria, commonly called plains coreopsis, garden coreopsis, golden tickseed or calliopsis, is an annual coreopsis that is native to the western U.S. (west of the Mississippi River).
Coreopsis, commonly known as Tickseed, are prized by many gardeners for the bright colors of their flowers and their ability to put up with most garden soils. ... Prolific bloomers, Coreopsis produce masses of showy single, semi-double or double daisy like flowers, mostly in shades of rich gold, yellow, orange or red.
This native annual illuminates the garden or meadow with fantastic clusters of bi-color blooms, all the way from summer into fall. Plains Coreopsis makes for gorgeous cut flowers and can be grown in almost any sunny spot, from Maine all the way to California. This variety is deer resistant and extremely easy to grow. All of the seed we handle at American Meadows is non-GMO, neonicotinoid-free and guaranteed to grow. Annual.
Coreopsis flowers gently sway in the lightest breeze, appearing to almost float above the delicate foliage. Wildflowers, like this heirloom, are easy to grow and don't need special care, other than water, although moderately drought and heat tolerant, too. Butterflies and bees delight in the nectar, and songbirds seek out the seeds in fall and winter. Coreopsis is also known as tickseed. Often reseeds.
Coreopsis (Coreopsis Tinctoria) - One of the most popular wildflowers grown in the United States is also one of the easiest to grow from flower seeds. Used primarily for landscape beautification, it brightens up any setting. The Plains Coreopsis flower is bi-color with bright yellow tips on the petals and red centers. It is great for cutting, and each stem adds a whole flush of small flowers to arrangements. Butterflies love the nectar of Coreopsis blooms.
Directly sow Plains Coreopsis seeds outdoors in spring into a prepared seed bed. Soil should be loosened and weed free. Press the flower seeds into the soil and lightly cover. Keep the seed moist until germination. Plains Coreopsis is perhaps the very best native annual for re-seeding.
