Item description
Heirloom Organic Broccoli De Cicco Seeds (20)
Productive, Italian heirloom broccoli especially good for freezing.
Full Description
De Cicco is an excellent choice for extended harvests for home gardeners. Vigorous plants yield 3-4", blue-green heads. After cutting the main head, more side shoots develop, producing many more small to medium-sized heads through the summer. Good for steaming, stir-fries and for freezing. Sow indoors six weeks before transplanting outdoors.Favorite multi-cut Italian variety.
A traditional Italian heirloom variety producing small, avg. 3–4" main heads projected well above the foliage followed by a large yield of side-shoot spears. Nonuniform in maturity, resulting in a long harvest period. Grow as later succession to BC1611 or Atlantis. Longer harvest period than other sprouting broccoli varieties, with more variation in shoot size. For spring or fall production. Pinching recommended to encourage heavier side-shoot production. Many broccoli lovers favor the variety broccoli “Di Cicco” (Brassica oleracea), which sprouts a main head in addition to many smaller offshoot florets that mature at different rates. First introduced in 1890, Di Cicco is an Italian green sprouting heirloom, or Calabrese, broccoli with a six- to eight-week harvest window. Like other varieties of broccoli, it is a cool-season crop and requires similar growing conditions to thrive.
