Keith Longbotham, a graduate of Wayland Baptist University, was a charter member of a touring group for the university called Spirit of America. He was also the minister of music at the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton, Texas. In 1982, he joined a bluegrass group at Opryland USA and was then invited to perform at the Opry as a guest of Roy Acuff and Porter Wagoner.
