Item description
BASES OVERSEAS:
An American Trusteeship In Power
by George Weller
New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, (1944).
First edition, first printing.
Contains publisher's "First edition" statement to the copyright page.
George Weller (1907-2002) was novelist, playwright, and journalist who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1943 as a war correspondent.
He is most famous for his posthumously published work FIRST INTO NAGASAKI, that reveals U.S. military censored details on the Japanese savage treatment of U.S. POWs, and the ghastly details of the nuclear bombardment.
After being on the front-lines and traveling to military events around the world, Weller observed and researched America's military system of international bases, with their details of potential strategies and political power, to offer this insightful study.
Very light rubbing to the lower shelf-edges, else near fine in burnished-auburn linen with white embossed titles and star borders to the spine, map illustrated end-papers; in a rubbed very good dust jacket with a short tear and attendant creases to the upper edge of the front panel, small scratches to the spine panel, small chips and wear to the upper and lower spine edges, rub-wear to the front flap fold; original $3.50 printed price still intact to the front inner flap.
A rather hard-to-find book in an elusive dust jacket.
Octavo; 434 pages; appendices; index.
