Item description
THE ARNHEITER AFFAIR
(New York): A Dell Book, (1973).
First paperback edition, first printing.
Contains publisher's statement "First Dell printing February 1973" to the copyright page, and "Dell 0115" with "1.50' price to the front cover.
The first book by the highly acclaimed investigative journalist of Vietnam War secrets, and the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winning author of A BRIGHT SHINING LIE.
Sheehan's debut book examines the facts underlying the removal of Navy Captain Marcus Aurelius Arnheiter from command of the U.S.S. Vance, which was on assignment off the coast of Vietnam, and finds the former Captain guilty of falsifying logs, misappropriating funds, making his men lie, and commanding neurotically.
The U.S.S. Vance incidents are commonly compared with those in the Caine Mutiny and Arnheiter is often compared with Captain Queeg.
This title was initially removed from the market due to a libel suit by Arnheiter, and later released again when Astronaut Frank Borman corroborated the fact that Arnheiter was expelled from West Point and afterwards joined the Naval Academy.
Unusually crisp and well-preserved.
A very mild crease to lower rear cover corner, else very nearly fine in very glossy color illustrated stiff-card wraps, all page edges green.
Quite a scarce mass-market paperback in collectible condition.
