Item description
STRANGE BOARDERS:
A Comedy In Three Acts
by George Batson and Jack Kirkland
New York: Dramatists Play Service, (1947).
Revised from the original play written under the title CORDELIA.
STRANGE BOARDERS was produced under the title A DANGEROUS WOMAN at the Erie Theater in New York in 1947 produced by David Lowe and John Huntington.
This Dramatists publication lists fourteen plays to the back cover, the last being YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU.
The promoted play to the last page is "Just published in a special acting version: STAGE DOOR".
This three act comedy features Cordelia, a boarding house land lady who is at first fooled by a group of recent tenants/bank robbers, and then resolves to get the stolen money and turn the robbers in for a reward.
Jack Kirkland garnered numerous accolades for play writing and screen writing, most notably for his play TOBACCO ROAD, and for his film GILDED LILY starring Fred MacMurray and Claudette Colbert.
A lovely vintage copy of an elusive play.
Very mild crease to the front cover, else very good in burnished-orange stiff card stapled wraps with black titles and decorative rules to the front cover; original 85 cents price still intact to the front cover.
A significant theater and literary collectible.
