Item description
THE SOLOIST
by Steve Lopez
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, (12008)
First edition, first printing.
SIGNED by the author to the title page.
THE SOLOIST won the USA PEN Award for literary non-fiction.
Lopez, a Los Angeles time journalist, wrote a series of columns about Nathaniel Ayers before writing this journal of Ayers and the relationship Lopez developed with him.
Ayers was a Julliard schooled musician who ended up with a mental breakdown, living on skid row on the Los Angeles streets and playing a two-string violin.
Lopez was moved by Ayers street playing and became involved in trying to help him. This is their true tale.
The national best-selling book inspired the film THE SOLOIST, which stars Robert Downey, Jr. as Lopez.
Near fine (very mildly crimped to the upper and lower spine edges) in purple over smoke-black boards with copper embossed decorations to the front cover and with copper embossed titles to the spine; in a fine dust jacket; original $25.95 printed price still intact to the front inner flap.
A lovely SIGNED literary gift item.
