Item description
THE ESCAPE ARTIST
by David Wagoner
New York: Ballantine Books, (1982).
First paperback edition, first printing, and First Movie tie-in edition.
Contains publisher's first printing number code 29738 and $2.50 price to the front cover, and first printing statement "First Ballantine Books Edition, September 1982" to the copyright page.
A 1965 novel by Wagoner adapted to screenplay by Melissa Mathison and Stephen Zito, released in 1982 as a major film by Frances Ford Coppola Studios, debut directed by Caleb Deschanel, starring Griffin O'Neal, Desi Arnaz, Desiderio Arnaz, Raul Julia, Joan Hackett, and Teri Garr.
The film showed the final performances by Desi Arnaz and Joan Hackett.
A well-acclaimed film and a fascinating magicians plot featuring the grandson of a famous magician similar to Houdini, a corrupt mayor played by Desi Arnaz, a pick-pocketing talent, and a coming to terms with a late father's past.
Wagoner has garnered numerous awards and accolades for his ten novels, a produced play, and his twenty-five published poetry collections, including two Pushcart Prizes and two National Book Award nominations.
Very tight clean.
High gloss covers!
Barely perceptible minute crimp to upper corner tips, else fine fresh in color illustrated wraps portraying Griffin O'Neal in an illustration and a Frances Ford Coppola Studios film blurb to the front cover, film blurbs and cast credits to the rear cover; original $2.50 price still intact to the front cover.
Elusive in such crisp condition.
