Item description
100 Seeds Indigofera Tinctoria Bengal Or Madras Or True Indigo
This perennial shrub likes to live in sun to partial shade where it can grow to 6 feet high and blossoms in the middle of spring, showing off its red and orange blossoms. This plant was one of the original sources used to make indigo dye. Small branches or twigs can be used to brush your teeth with in a pinch. This plant can capture nitrogen gas from the air and save that nitrogen in molecules used inside the plant. When the plant dies and composts, it fertilizes the soil with this captured nitrogen. In general Indigofera plants are larval host plants for the Mimosa Skipper, False Duskywing, and Reakirts Blue butterflies. USDA Hardiness Zones 5 to 12.
