Great tribute, I remember his involvement in the AIDs Project and I believe he also contributed to Childhood Diabetes causes. Wonderful man and actor.

@Starfisher : Though I didn’t know about his personal or charitable life, I did watch some of his movies ~~ and I think I read one of his books.
A Raisin in the Sun was disturbing to me on many levels.

I LOVE this and I’m so glad that you created it. I have always admired Sir Poitier (Poitier was granted a knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II in 1974). In 1995, he received the Kennedy Center Honor. From 1997 to 2007, he was the Bahamian Ambassador to Japan. In 2009, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. In 2016, he was awarded the BAFTA Fellowship for outstanding lifetime achievement in film. In 1999, he ranked 22nd among male actors on the “100 Years…100 Stars” list by the American Film Institute. In 1982, he received the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award and in 2000, he received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. In 2002, he was given an Honorary Academy Award, in recognition of his “remarkable accomplishments as an artist and as a human being”

LOL, hows that for info? As I said, I really liked Poitier and enjoyed his movies. My favorites were “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?” “To Sir With Love” and “A Raisin In The Sun” which I also found disturbing on many levels.
