The Importance of Listing Traits to Increase Online Sales

Item traits are crucial in helping buyers find your listings.

Hi, Brianna here! Have you seen my latest video to simplify the how and why of adding traits to your listings? It's so helpful in search!  Let's start with the why:

Imagine that you want to buy a pair of size 9 blue loafers. If you just type ‘women’s shoes’ into a search bar, you’ll get a couple hundred thousand results. At that point, you would narrow down those results by searching for specific item traits such as brand, color, size, and condition. These traits are what help shoppers find the item they’ve been dreaming of!

At Bonanza, we use these traits - along with the category you select - to increase visibility for your items. When buyers are browsing through categories, they will be presented with the traits available for each category. They can then use these traits to narrow down their results.

When we send a seller's items to Google Shopping, we also use item traits where possible to match your item up with specific details that Google uses. Sending Google Shopping this extra info helps our sellers' items rank higher in search results.

There are two ways you can add item traits to your listings on Bonanza. You can add them while you are creating a new listing or you can use the batch edit tool. I've shown both methods in my latest video and I hope you can take a moment to watch it.

No. Best leave important aspects of the item to header and description. Google is not dumb. A tyranny of categories drag search to a crawl; then the provider uses these to filter out unwanted sellers – those not coughing up promotional fees.

This is the picture and condition of eBay.

Been there, done that, still zero sales.

Hi TomaCraftPlace,

It looks like you have some listings that are missing some vital traits that could cause them not to be advertised on Google Shopping.

We’d be happy to help you get those fixed up to increase your listing’s exposure if you’ll write to [email protected]

Great information, thanks! I try and fill them out as much as possible when I list.

Hi SpaceAgeAntiques,

We know it can take a little extra time to do so, but it certainly can help in the long run :)

Hi Brianna

For years I’ve been adding more traits than what Bonanza offers [carry over from my ebay selling days where there were more traits available and you could even create your own]

I’ve never known if it was helpful or not but guessed that it wouldn’t hurt at the very least… is this a correct assumption?

ie: Collector spoon traits I’ve added:
Type, theme, region, country, state/province, city, organization/establishment, emblem, handle, bowl, composition, markings, weight, length, color

thanks

BonanzaBrianna says in response: 09/13/22 at 13:21:25

Hi Selah53,

Correct! We definitely recommend adding this additional information even if it takes a little extra time to do so. Buyers will certainly appreciate having the extra information!

Johnk59poetry says: 09/13/22 at 12:34:56

I try to do that with most of my items.

BonanzaBrianna says in response: 09/13/22 at 13:21:52

Hi John,

Awesome! We appreciate it, the search engines appreciate it and so do the buyers :)
