Item description

Laconic and impressive, this antique bracelet consists of seven large doomed round faceted genuine Whitby jet panels, which are flat at the back. Every jet panel is carved by hand and all of them are ideally matched and positioned to form a smooth line. Polished to a fine state, this jet bracelet has an ideal light reflection and has a shiny glow that could never be achieved with another similar medium like gutta percha or bog oak. Despite years, the piece looks very modern and has a touch of a drama to it, because Whitby jet was an ideal material for mourning jewelry through the ages and was especially cherished by Queen Victoria, who grieved for the loved one for decades. This bracelet, which is more than hundred and thirty years old, is considered to be rare because its striking design was influenced by Christopher Dresser and based on its superb condition, since it is hard to find a Victorian jet jewelry without any chips ! Condition: rare superb state, faceted links without any chips. Flexible elastic cord allows comfy fit and its tips are hidden inside links and not flapping around. Looks beautiful overall. Date: ca 1880 Origin: Whitby , England Material: tested and confirmed to be original genuine jet from Whitby ( Yorkshire cost), assembled on a black double strand elastic cord Size approx: full length of the bracelet is approx. 7.2" (18.4 cm), slightly over 1 inch wide Weight: 31.3 gr. Jet medium is warm to the touch and light by the weight, that will be a joy to wear everyday! The jewelry comes in new presentable box, gift wrapped with tracking and insurance. If you want to know more about jet, please see wonderful collections of Whitby Jet jewellery in Whitby Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum in London or MMOA in New York.
