Back before "trad" meant anything, Hickey Freeman was selling their fine suiting and wares to the men of Rochester, New York. Begun by three friends--Jacob Freeman, Jeremiah Hickey, and Thomas Mahon (whose name was dropped in 1900 for his lack of capital investment)--the company is synonymous with the east coast look. Fun fact: all Hickey Freeman suits undergo "sponging," a process by which a certain amount of moisture is allowed to penetrate the fabric, ensuring that every suit retains its size after cleaning, getting caught in the rain, or those ill-timed diving incidents.
