Item description
First edition of "Kometjakten" from 1946 written and illustrated by Tove Jansson, an envelope (empty) signed and adressed by Tove Jansson and first edition of Nalleresan from 1944 illustrated by Tove Jansson.
The original first printing of this first full-length novel in the Moomins series. Later this very rare book underwent numerous revisions during the author's lifetime, with scenes deleted and changes to the temperament and personalities of some of its characters made. Most modern editions are now translations of the last Swedish edition from 1968, Kometen kommer. The illustrations in this first edition, reproduced from Jansson's water-colours, were also re-worked in ink for subsequent editions. Bound with pictorial wrappers, pp. 179, untrimmed or roughly-cut edges, illustrated with line-drawings and reproductions of the author's original paintings.
Covers have wear and the first opening marks from old tape. The pages are in good condition despite diligent reading.
An envelope (empty) addressed from Tove to her friend the famous Danish artist Lis Hooge Hansen. The letter has been returned to Tove (letter sent on 06.05.1981 but Lis Hooge Hansen had died on 17.04.1981).
Letter was sent from the place where Tove's island Pellinge is located (Storpellinge postcode 07390).
This rare book is about children of war traveling from Finland to Sweden and their experiences in the new country.
Writer Solveig von Schoultz.
