Item description
This vintage postcard features a lithograph image of the historic Wren Building at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Known as the oldest academic building in America, its foundation was laid in 1695 based on designs by Sir Christopher Wren, a renowned English architect. The postcard vividly depicts the iconic red brick structure with a clock tower, surrounded by mature trees, a cannon on the lawn, and a statue of Norborne Berkeley, Baron de Botetourt, the royal governor.
Produced by Genuine Curt Teich of Chicago, this chrome postcard boasts vibrant colors and detailed printing typical of early to mid-20th century lithographs. The reverse side includes printed historical context, a postage box for a one-cent stamp, and references Rose's 5-10 and 25-cent stores in Williamsburg, indicating its local retail distribution. A collectible piece for those interested in American history, architecture, or university memorabilia, this postcard captures a timeless landmark with rich heritage and charm.
