Item description
1:72 Scale Diecast Metal - Nakajima B5N Kate Carrier Based Torpedo Bomber - Hiryu Air Group Commander Lt. Joichi Tomonaga, Battle of Midway, 1942 ? Length: 5.5" Wingspan: 8.75?
This Kate model is a three seat airplane. The cockpit is glue shut. It has no pilot figure included. The landing gear is optional and can be attached or omitted to display the model in in-flight configuration. The covers for the wheel wells are included. A display stand is included.
A torpedo is also included and can be attached to the center line, however, the torpedo and the stand interfere with each other. In other words, if you display the model on the stand, then the torpedo has no space to be attached.
This is really a "no-play" model or a "display-only" model. It is mostly metal and very heavy. It also has a number of antennas which look great but are very fragile.
This is not a toy. Recommended for 15 and up.
The Nakajima B5N (Japanese: ?? B5N, Allied reporting name "Kate") was the standard carrier-based torpedo bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) for much of World War II. It also served as a high level bomber.
Although the B5N was substantially faster and more capable than its Allied counterparts, the American Douglas TBD Devastator monoplane (the U.S. Navy's first all-metal, carrier-borne monoplane of any type with retracting gear), and the British Fairey Swordfish and Fairey Albacore torpedo biplanes, it was nearing obsolescence by 1941. Nevertheless, the B5N operated throughout the whole war, due to the delayed development of its successor, the B6N.
