One-of-a-Kind Artwork

This is an unusual heart brooch created by Charles Washington III, a well-known Houston Artist who creates works of art based on themes relevant to Third Ward culture using recycled and scrap materials in art and design. Being formerly homeless he learned to use his experiences and whatever he has in his environment to create one-of-a-kind artwork pieces. He is known for his door series, one is the “Red Door” series that deals with AIDS, and another series is the “Pink Series” dealing with cures and a Jazz series of doors, which is a recurring motif in his work.  He also created an art car series with a theme representing genres of Blues, Jazz and R&B Music and signed by various musicians. The “Blanket” is one of his most recognized sculptures created during his homeless period. His work is meant to document his lifetime of being here on Earth.

This brooch is in great condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. It is signed on the front by the artist. It measures approximately 2 ¼ inches wide and 2 ½ inches tall. It is extremely lightweight. The colors are a creamy beige base with purple fabric and colorful foil like additions. The roll over clasp closure works fine and is secure. The glue on the back of the piece has turned orange from age but obviously doesn’t show when being worn. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be perfect for anyone who loves original handcrafted artwork. It would be a great statement of love for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, or any special occasion when you want to express your love for someone.
