This is an unusual cat brooch done in a gold tone metal. The brooch is a reproduction of the cat that was depicted on a panel bracelet that was found in 1903 from the Treasure of Mikhail, at the Zlatoverkhii Monastery in Kiev, Russia. The bracelet was from the end of the 12th Century to the beginning of the 13th Century. You can find information about this bracelet at the website for the State Historical Museum at "depts.washington.edu/silkroad/museums/gim/earlyrus.htm" I have included a picture of the bracelet in one of the photos so you can see the image of the brooch.

It measures approximately 2 inches tall and 1 ¾ inches wide. It is signed on the back with the copyright symbol © and a triangle inside of a triangle, which is the hallmark for Museum Reproductions, Inc. According to their website Museum Reproductions, Inc. was incorporated in 1969. They create authorized reproductions, created under license, from prestigious museums around the world. They do not sell directly to the general public, only to established retailers. They are located in Massachusetts.

This hard to find brooch is in great vintage condition as you can see by the many enlarged photographs.  There is a tiny defect in the paint on the back of the brooch at the top (see photo with arrow), but it is hard to see without magnification and does not affect the beauty of the pin. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be a wonderful addition to your collection of vintage figural jewelry. It is an unusual piece of wearable art history to add to your wardrobe. Perfect for any cat lover or those who are interested in Russian History!
