This is a beautiful oval shaped brooch or pin made from redware clay pottery. It is glazed in white and then handpainted with a stunning blue and brown bird, a yellow tulip like flower and a rose pink heart shaped flower and green leaves on the vine. It is signed on the back with a symbol or logo between the 19 and the 70 for the year and also between the J and the E for the artist’s name. It measures approximately 2 ¼ inches long and 1 ½ inches tall. I have another similar round pin listed by the same artist and I will combine shipping and offer a discount if both are purchased at the same time.

The brooch is very similar to Stangl pottery, the bird, leaves, flower and coloring can be found on many pieces of Stangl pottery. Stangl was also famous for the use of redware clay and during the 1950s even created hand painted round and oval porcelain brooches and earring sets designed by Kay Hackett. The artist of this pretty brooch made in 1970 was obviously a fan of this style and recreated the pottery design as wearable jewelry art.

It is in excellent vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There are no chips or cracks. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This pin has a feeling of whimsical charm to it and would be perfect for Spring or Summer wardrobes.  It would make a wonderful addition to your collection of hand crafted jewelry.
