This is a beautifully shaped, hand painted wood carved, three dimensional flying Pelican pin or brooch. It has exquisite realistic details down to the textured feathers. With the variation of colors and the quality of craftsmanship it is certainly a piece of wearable art. It measures approximately 2 1/4 inches long and 1 3/4 inches tall and is 1 inch deep. The craftsmanship is lovely and is signed by the artist EE and dated 12–89.  It has the quality you would see in the Takahashi bird pins.

It is in excellent vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There is some fine line crazing in the glaze paint, mainly of the white and yellow, common for its age. For those of you not familiar with the term, crazing happens mostly with age and is a fine network of tiny cracks in the glaze. You only see the lines with magnification. The pin has a little wobble to it when it is not in the clasp, but it is nice and secure in the rollover safety clasp.

This is a wonderful pin for any nature lover or someone who appreciates the beach life. It would look great on a jacket lapel, a purse or even on a hat. It will be a nice addition to your collection of vintage figural jewelry or a special gift for your favorite bird lover, bird watcher or Ornithologist. It is a great conversation piece and definitely a one-of-a-kind piece of art jewelry.
