This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE RELIGIOUS PENDANT that was made during that 1920s and most likely ORIGINATES FROM FRANCE. It is handmade from PLATINUM (front) and 18K YELLOW GOLD (back). The pendant displays a relief of the PRAYING VIRGIN MARY / MADONNA / BLESSED MARY / MOTHER OF GOD / MARIA who has a RADIATING HALO made from PLIQUE-A-JOUR BLUE ENAMEL. Plique-à-jour is French for "letting in daylight". It is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells and has no backing so light can shine through the translucent enamel. It is like a miniature version of stained glass that is very technically challenging with a high failure rate (from Wikipedia).
The pendant is set with 13 WHITE & CLEAR ROSE CUT DIAMONDS that weigh approx. .10 ctw. The OVAL PENDANT is framed with 45 NATURAL PEARLS - one may be missing. The back of the pendant shows old lead solder where the plique-a-jour piece was soldered to the outer diamond frame. The pendant measure just over 1-1/16” long, not including the bale, by 7/8” at the widest point. The total weight is 4.9 grams. Look at the distant pics to get a more accurate feel for what the face looks like since these greatly magnified pics can distort it. ONE OF A KIND!
