The Dente fly trap has unique saw-like or tooth-like edges on the trap margins. It has hinged leaves with three or four sensitive hairs in the center of each lobe. When an insect touches the hairs, the hinge mechanism is triggered, and the leaves close rapidly to trap the insect. The inside of the traps starts out green, and the maroon coloration develops/intensifies with bright light and time/maturity.
• Average mature height: Under 6 inches
• Light: Full to part sun
• Soil: Grows well in peat, peat/perlite, or sphagnum moss. Place a tray of water underneath to keep the plant wet.
• Zones: 6-10
Plant Size
A baby plant, that is 1-4 inches tall, will arrive at your home in a 2-ounce pot (fly traps and sundews) or 3-inch-deep pot (pitcher plants). Then, raise your new baby to maturity under your caring, green thumb.
