ABC Book
by C. B. Falls
Thin hardback book, 4to (12-1/2inches x 9-1/4 inches).
Very Rare in this condition with a dust jacket.
1923 first edition, (1st trade printing after the signed and limited edition with block prints) in original dust jacket. 1923 on the title page and verso confirming that this is a first edition. The book is fine condition with only three small perforation areas of the paper along the bottom edge of the front cover of the book. It is extremely rare to fine one of this classic
books in this condition and also with the dust jacket.
You can check the internet databases for prices of much lesser condition first edition copies without a dust jacket. This is well underpriced and will not be listed at this low price should the book not sell.
The corner at the lower right has a bit of wear, and the paper is worn through (this is minor but mentioned). The rear cover has one small area of wear where the paper is perforated near the corner of the book.
The top front cover corner of the book has minute wear. Again, minor, but mentioned. The black spine and book covers as as new. Bright as they come. The interior is white with the magnificent reproductions of the woodblock plates.
Overall this is a fine copy. This is remarkable, since this is a famous children's book. It must be one of the more superior copies in existence.
Additionally this book has its original dust jacket, with the $2.00 price on the front flap at the bottom. As the photos show, the jacket has a large 6" x 2" piece missing from the front cover.
A 2 inch closed tear is near the spine-front cover juncture on the front jacket panel, with a 1/2 inch piece lacking at the bottom of the spine of the dust jacket. There is a little chipping at the top of the jacket spine.
On the rear jacket panel there 1-1/4 by one inch piece missing at the right top near the jacket spine, and to the left along the top edge there is a creased piece ending in a 1-1/2 inch closed tear. The upper left corner of the rear jacket panel is chipped. The bottom edge of the rear jacket panel has some edgewear and four closed tears, the largest being 1-1/8 inch. There is a bit of wear and a few paper perforations along the rear jacket flap-rear jacket juncture.
Over all the jacket is bright with minimal soiling. The dust jacket should be professionally repaired by a paper conservationist. There is no cello-tape or glue on this dust jacket.
Over all a fine first edition first issue copy (after the limited, signed edition) in a good minus rare dust jacket from 1923. This book should go into a fine collection. It’s rare to encounter a copy such as this one.
I will enclose the dust jacket in Mylar upon purchase to keep it fresh and from getting further tears (until restored by a good paper restorer). This book will be sent insured and well boxed.
No refunds or returns of this item if sold outside the United States. Thank you.
