Vintage "Victoria" Alexander Doll Co Hard Plastic/Cloth Doll "Sleep Eyes" with Eyelashes 1950's.

Very good condition for the age of this doll. Marked on back of neck.  18 " doll. She has cloth body   Her head, arms, hands and legs are hard plastic. Her eyes has eye lashes and they open and shut, are called sleep eyes.

Dress tag has doll's name. Victoria, I have not tried to clean this doll. She is in the condition that I purchased her in.  I do not have a doll box.

I have had this beauty in my collection for several years. I am selling several of my Vintage hard plastic ( 1948-1962 ) Madame Alexander’s which some are extremely rare and Mint. Some have boxes, some not. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.

The company was started in 1890 in New York as a porcelain doll repair and doll hospital.

For more than 73 years, Madame Alexander dolls have provided enormous pleasure. The small-scale, cherubic-looking dolls, with classic hairdos, pursed lips, large eyes, tiny noses and period attire, have mimicked a host of favorite real-life and storybook characters, and television and movie stars. Baby dolls have been produced as well.

With sales faring well, particularly after a set was produced to commemorate the 1934 birth of the Dionne quintuplets, Alexander's husband, Philip Behrman, left his job at a hat company to join the business. The company, which manufactured dolls in the composition material from molds in New York factories, switched in 1947 to a hard plastic that was used through 1959. This gave the dolls a beautiful porcelain appearance and ushered in what is referred to as the "golden era," according to Sargent, who knew the founder well.

Dolls have been produced in several styles and sizes, beginning with 16-inch cloth dolls and 7- to 20-inch composition dolls. Hard plastic dolls were made in sizes from 8 inches to 31 inches; vinyl dolls are being made from 14 inches to 21 inches. Baby dolls are 12 to 20 inches long.

The faces of all but the cloth dolls incorporated "sleep" eyes that closed and opened, nylon or painted lashes, and closed mouths, except for the open-mouthed baby dolls.

In addition to the Dionne dolls, the company manufactured other sets to mark special events. A set of 36 dolls that depicted Queen Elizabeth's 1953 coronation and all the people who were involved was priced at a regal $25,000.

Some of her  dolls has sold recently this year for $51, 000, according to internet article in the Chicago Tribune.
