How to Sell for FREE on Bonanza!

Hello Bonanzlers, Bonanza Greg here!  Still being relatively new to Bonanza, I wanted to share with you something I just learned (but some of you are already well aware of). As I do every day, I look through our daily sales transactions; scouring for trends, issues, and opportunities that could benefit our sellers. “What did you find that was so exciting that it prompted a blog post?” you ask. Well, I saw a terrific order from one of our veteran sellers which totaled $300 for 14 unique items. What astonished me, was that the Final Value Fee (commission fee) for the total order was 0, zip, zilch, nil, nada, zero!

Seeing this, I wanted to learn more and understand a couple of things:  

  1. Is this right? How could this be?
  2. If this is right, then are there other activities, policies, and tools that our selling community could leverage on a daily basis to make commission-free sales?

So I did what any other business leader would do. First, I validated with our team that sellers can sell without paying any commissions. Then, I held a Bonanza team member contest to find out who knew of the most methods for commission-free sales available to our sellers…. It turns out that I didn’t have enough prizes for all the responses I received!  

How to Sell for Free on Bonanza

Before I get to the good part, I want to highlight that these free tools are NOT short-term promotions in response to COVID-19. They are everyday methods we’ve had in place for years that every one of you can leverage to make your booth more profitable. You can also choose to reduce your prices to drive more revenue (without sacrificing profitability). So, without further ado, here they are (in no particular order):

  1. Customer Marketing Tool: Build repeat business and pay no commission fees with marketing campaigns to your past buyers.
  2. Bonanza Promotions: We simply forego what we would collect from you in sales commission fees and pass that amount on as an enticing discount coupon to shoppers.
  3. Free Referral Website: Designate a website you own or plan to drive traffic from and you pay nothing when buyers click from this site and purchase your items.
  4. Social Media Marketing:  Add your account's unique referral ID to your business' social media posts to pay no commission when buyers click your link and make a purchase.
  5. Redeem Reward Tokens: Apply your reward tokens to save $1 off that month’s Final Value Fees for every 500 tokens redeemed. 
  6. Seller Referrals: Earn 5,000 tokens when a seller you have referred to Bonanza makes their first sale and use them to take up to $10 off your Final Value Fees!
  7. Bonanza WebstoresWebstore transactions are not charged a Final Value Fee.

Well Bonanza Greg, I have been listing my wares on Bonanza for quite a few years and I tell you, if I had to count on sales, not profit but sales, to feed myself, I would have been gone quite awhile back!! It seems that if one does not have a monthly fee store, do not expect much at all for sales.

There are no secrets – just lots of information and many places to look for it is what I’ve experienced as a new Bonanza user. So what I’ve asked our team to do is to consolidate all such information into a “Seller Playbook” that Shelly will be publishing here shortly. Then everything you need to know to be successful on Bonanza will be easily accessible and in one place.

Hello foxredb, thank you for reaching out. First off, I’m ecstatic to hear that your Booth is getting a lot of visitors as your shirts are really creative! As an option, you might consider testing pricing levels to ensure that your customers/audience feel that the price is appropriate. Thanks for the post, and also your willingness to engage with the seller community. While no selling fees sounds great, I also know you get what you pay for. I am fairly new to Bonanza, but I can already tell that the selling platform is top notch and very intuitive, and there are a lot of tools for sellers to utilize. However, the big white elephant in the room is that Bonanza’s traffic is dwarfed by eBay’s and Amazon’s. What is more, if I have my own website, I am not sending buyers here – I am selling to them on my own site. If I buy Facebook ads, I am directing them to my website, not Bonanza. I realize there is already a 3.5% standard fee, and then levels of advertising on top of that, but personally I think my Final Value Fee would be best spent telling the world how great Bonanza is, in order to drive traffic to the site so that everyone benefits. I couldn’t tell you how to accomplish the goal – I am not a marketing professional. But, I also doubt I am the only seller on Bonanza that feels this way. Thanks for your attention.

pipefittingstore, thank you for your message. The fact is that our volumes will likely always be dwarfed by eBay and Amazon. But what I can tell you is that we have a plan to work on several facets of traffic. The most important of which is developing “organic” traffic. Part of our plan is to create a sustainable mechanism to get our brand name out there. This will be coming. Thank you for your continued support!
